The Summer Break Party will be the first of its kind with all performances being Auslan interpreted. The party will give opportunity Deaf and Hard of Hearing people to feel the music with language access on stage. They will have opportunity to feel express of their music souls. During the breaks, Deaf Slam perform Poetry and dramas on stage. Also audience will have opportunity to stand on stage to express their music/visually in Auslan.
The Summer break party will happen annually, we wanted to start small this year and focus the event and hopefully, with more support from the Melbourne music scene, we can raise the profile of this unique event. The Summer Break party is all about inclusivity and breaking down the barriers between the deaf and hearing communities. We want to show that music and dance can be enjoyed by everyone (even the Deaf and hard of hearing).
The event is fundraising for Deaf Basketball Australia for the Goannas (deaf men's basketball team) to go to the Deaflympics in Turkey next year and also, for our U21 boys and girls to go to the World Championship in 2018
