“Studio Lighting Essentials” is the perfect jump-on point for photographers who want to get started with studio-based photography. It’s a hands-on, learn-by-doing course and will show you how to set up, use and shoot with studio lights. More importantly, it covers key lighting techniques that can be the difference between an average studio portrait and a GREAT one!
This workshop is ideal for photographers who are planning to set up a studio or shoot in one.
What you will learn:
- The mechanics of studio lights -- how to set them up, how to use them, lighting groups and channels.
- Adjusting and controlling studio lights.
- Quality of light - hard vs soft - and when to use them.
- Lighting modifiers (softboxes, octaboxes etc) and how best to use them.
- Lighting patterns and their effect on faces and bodies.
- Key lighting, fill lighting and separation lighting.
- Lighting and posing tips for portrait photography.
- Creative studio lighting styles.
If you've ever thought about going into studio photography, whether for creative reasons or professional ones, "Studio Lighting Essentials" will set you up to shoot with confidence in a studio environment.
We begin this workshop with an overview of the key elements in studio lighting and studio portraiture. A live demonstration will give you a solid understanding of how to best use studio lighting when shooting portraits. Finally, you'll gain hands-on experience using studio lights by shooting with our portrait model.
You'll be led by professional photographer and portrait lighting teacher, Seng Mah, through the session and come away with great captures! It's going to be a workshop that's full of fun and, if you're not a portrait photographer yet, it'll make you fall in love with portraiture!
Don't miss out as this event is limited to 10 participants.
WHAT TO BRING
- Your interchangeable lens camera (DSLR or mirrorless) with memory card/s and batteries (always bring a fully charged spare). If you are using a mirrorless camera, please make sure that your “exposure preview” or “live exposure” setting is turned off as this function isn’t used in a studio shooting environment. Refer to your manual to find out how to disable this functions.
- Lenses within the 70-200mm focal length range (prime lenses or zoom lenses) if you're using full frame cameras. If you're using a camera with an APS-C crop frame sensor, lenses 50mm or longer are good to use.
Refund requests: You can request a refund up until 7 days prior to the workshop date. Please note that effective 1 July 2019, Eventbrite will no longer refund the booking fee (which is included in the price of this event). If you request a refund, your money will be refunded less the Eventbrite booking fee.
