Event description

Description

Teachers are driven to use evidence-based practices to meet the needs of a number of diverse learners. Structured Teaching is an evidence-based Comprehensive treatment model (CTMs) that consists of a set of practices designed to support students on the autism spectrum to independently complete tasks and activities. The Autism CRC has investigated the use of visual schedules and work systems within mainstream classrooms and developed a suite of resources to support classroom teachers to implement these. Structured teaching has the potential to support all students, including those on the autism spectrum.

In this day-long workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand the principles of structured teaching
  2. Explore the evidence-base that underpins the use of structured teaching to support students on the autism spectrum
  3. Carefully consider how to implement structured teaching with efficacy
  4. Plan a work system for a student in their class personalised according to individual student need.

Participants will be required to complete a short amount of preparation for this workshop which will include profiling one (anonymous) student for whom they would like to develop a structured work system.
