Description


All fire engineering is underpinned on the building fire safety strategy. Without a strategy, different consultants with different priorities can change the focus and ultimately lead to conflicting and ineffective design choices. Understanding how to identify the elements of a fire safety strategy and where there are gaps in the strategy will ultimately lead to a successful project delivery. Understanding what is possible and what is acceptable can support Building Surveyors/Certifiers in making informed decisions.

  • Deemed-to-Satisfy Fire resistance
  • Structural Fire Engineering for Steel buildings;
  • Structural Fire Engineering for Concrete buildings;
  • Structural Fire Engineering for Mass Timber buildings (CLT etc);
  • Structural Fire Engineering for Composite materials and elements (carbon fibre etc);
  • Red flags, traps and watch-it’s;
  • Limitations of Structural Fire Engineering / what Structural Fire Engineering isn’t;

The course provides a comprehensive understanding of the core principles of Structural Fire Engineering, without being overloaded with technical detail. Attendees will come away with a good understanding of what is possible to achieve using Structural Fire Engineering and an ability to identify sub-standard analysis methods. This will enable attendees to have greater rigour around assessing a fire safety strategy and therefore manage their risk exposure when considering or approving building designs that adopt structural fire engineering.


This half-day training will be delivered as an interactive, facilitator-led workshop with relevant project examples and case studies.

Linus has also worked throughout the UK and Europe as a Structural Fire Engineer with a focus on steel-framed high rise commercial buildings.
