Description

This program has been developed by leading mental health and education experts including Chris Sarra (2016 NAIDOC Person of the Year) and incorporates feedback from people with a lived experience to reflect real life situations and experiences.

Presented by ConNetica, this training covers:

  • an understanding of the unique factors contributing to thoughts of suicide for Aboriginal people
  • a strengths based approach to social support and suicide intervention
  • the skills and knowledge to identify signs and debunk myths
  • awareness of the prevalence of mental illness and suicide in Australia generally and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in particular
  • tailored indigenous mental health conversation planning tools
  • list of suitable referral, support options and resources at local and national levels

ConNetica programs are practical and succinct and focus on building people’s confidence, willingness and skills to have conversations with people who are becoming vulnerable or at imminent risk of suicide.

We encourage you to assess your level of resilience when undertaking this training as it is not a counselling or therapeutic service. We recommend that if you are currently distressed, or have been recently bereaved by suicide, to delay participating until those experiences have settled.
