Suitable for: This workshop is open to all academic staff, especially those aiming to build external connections including Higher Degree Researchers (HDRs) and professional and technical staff working in research and is designed to support an academic career.

This workshop will assist you to have the skills and confidence to effectively connect with and engage with people (for example industry partners, fellow researchers, or potential funders) who can be vital for your personal and professional success. You will learn how to manage these networking relationships on an ongoing basis to ensure they are sustained and mutually beneficial, as well as gain insights on how to broaden your influence and get noticed by developing a networked approach to relationship. You will walk away from this session with the knowledge that you are the driver of your career progression.

• Know how to answer ‘what do you do?’ more productively
• Become comfortable and even charismatic when starting and leaving conversations
• Know the difference between building a simple or strategic Network
• Manage visibility and reap the rewards of influential networking
