Event description

Description

Having never worked in your industry before it’s hard to know what job roles exist, what skills employers value and how to sell yourself as a valuable prospective employee. This interactive workshop will take participants through a powerful five step career development plan that covers career pathway identification, job role analysis, self-skills analysis, strategies for skills improvement and building your industry knowledge. It is possible that graduates might even have up to 14 jobs in their lifetime. This means we need to become adaptable and prepare ourselves for lifelong learning and development.

This workshop will take attendees through:

Career Pathway Identification: A lot of graduates are aware of senior job roles within their field of study but have very little knowledge of suitable junior and entry level roles. This step of the workshop will involve and interactive exercise using LinkedIn where the audience will learn how to identify suitable career entry points.

Job Role Analysis: Having a good understanding of what a role involves is essential to creating a strong job application and discussing the role confidently at interview. The audience will be shown a powerful job role analysis technique to strengthen their future job applications.

Self Skills Analysis: Keeping up with the changing skill demands of various industries can be a challenge. In this step we will demonstrate the importance identifying your skill gaps.
Strategies For Skills Improvement: In this step the audience will be shown an extensive range of free learning tools to build new skills.

Building Your Industry Knowledge: Maintaining strong industry knowledge is essential for when speaking to potential employers. Companies prefer motivated graduates and having strong industry knowledge is one way you can demonstrate your motivation. We will cover various methods for doing this including:

  • Reading the news for current events
  • Following companies on twitter
  • Using apps like “LinkedIn Pulse” for fast insight into developments in your profession
  • Joining professional associations and committees
  • Going to industry networking events and building relationships with others in your industry
