Story Room

Welcome to the launch of Story Room at Henry's Rooftop, Hotel Steyne Manly

Six different people from all walks of life come together to share stories on what connects them. Join our six talented storytellers as they share a personal true story based on the theme “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger”.


Dr Vanessa Lee-Ahmat is from the Yupungathi and Meriam people, resides on the land of the Gadigal clan of the Eora nation. Dr Lee is a social epidemiologist, human rights advocate, educator, writer, poet and public health/ health sciences researcher. In 2005, Vanessa was awarded an Australian Government award for Outstanding Citizen in the Torres Strait for her work in public health to empower the community.

Pat Farmer is a professional ultra-marathon runner. Inspired by the great Cliffy Young, Pat ran the Sydney to Melbourne Ultra when he was 18 years of age. Since then, Pat Farmer has accomplished some of the greatest feats on Earth, including running over 20,000km from the North Pole to the South Pole in 2011/12. Pat has raised millions of dollars for causes during his 30-year running career including Lifeline, Cancer Council, The Red Cross, Diabetes Australia and the Nanhi Kali Foundation for the education of India’s girl child.

Kelly Van Nelson is the #1 bestselling author of a contemporary poetry collection, Graffiti Lane, who has had literary work featured in numerous international publications. She is the recipient of a First Edition Writing Fellowship, an AusMumpreneur ‘Big Idea – Changing the World’ Award winner for her impact using poetry in the youth community as an anti-bullying advocate, and a double gold Roar Success Award winner for Best Book and Most Powerful Influencer. As part of Hollywood Swag Bags honouring Oscars weekend in February, Kelly's #1 bestselling poetry book, Graffiti Lane, is going to be given to A-List Hollywood film royalty.

Peter Anthony is a speaker, author and story coach. He has taught storytelling in 12 countries over 20 years and believes the most successful people, like the most successful businesses, tells the most compelling stories. Peter takes his storytelling craft seriously and has completed a master’s in communication to learn how human psychology is hard wired to both tell and hear stories. Stories are the perfect blend of facts and emotions. Having worked in 12 countries, tens of industries and all nationalities, Peter is never surprised by how much stories are the universal language of business, friendships and relationships. Peter lives in Manly with his teenage daughter and enjoys hearing stories from the locals after a morning swim

Hannah Rodger is a recruiter, a sometimes blogger, a one-time viral poster on LinkedIn and founder of Sober Seekers Club. A Manchester native, Hannah found home in Sydney 6 years ago, and constantly marvels at how she has managed to create the life of her dreams. Hannah uses her keen sense of wonder for human endeavour and all things in the natural world to live a life she'd be proud to pass on to her children.

Stephanie Di Giacomo is an actor and writer whose debut solo show, a self-written one-woman play, titled ‘NINETEEN, TWENTY-NINE’ premiered at Sydney Fringe in 2019. Her outstanding work was met with rave reviews and received festival recognition in nomination for the NIDA Emerging Artist Award. Stephanie’s second play and first short film are currently in development for production in 2020.


Nick Howard was signed to BMG Records in Australia in the ’90s, Arista Records in the United Kingdom, (through Simon Cowell of AMERICAN IDOL fame) and Ariola Records in Germany, as a solo performer and a singer/songwriter. He has worked in the capacity as a producer developing young new talent and run an international music production company.


Story Room is an event presented on the first Wednesday of every month at Henry's Rooftop in Manly. A warm, safe and friendly environment to a chance to mingle with friends, make new friends, relax and be entertained by the eclectic and talented storytellers. The event creates a community where sharing real stories brings us together and helps us to feel connected. Enjoy drama, fun, laughter and have a chance to be a part of something different here on the Northern Beaches


The Steyne Hotel offers a wide selection of meals for those who wish to dine before the show

Option 1. Exclusive for the Story Room Event.

Show your ticket at the downstairs bar and order either of the Story Room specials below for $25

1. A beef burger (GF is available) with either Chips or Salad and a beverage of beer, wine or a soft drink

2. Vegetarian Falafel Wrap with chips or salad and a beverage of beer, wine or soft drink

Option 2. Simply order a meal on the night from the downstairs bar and relax and dine while you wait for the show to begin.

NB For dining option we suggest you between 5.30 and 6.15 pm to allow time to dine. The Story Room show starts at 7 pm sharp and you will only be allowed to enter in the short window of time between each storyteller.
