Stories We Carry and Care For: Soft Sculpture Workshop
Overview
Children will decorate a small textile square to create a "soft memory patch" that represents happy memories. The artist Ju Bavyka will lead them on a journey of reflection where children will think about a place they love, a person, a pet or a special experience to stimulate their imaginations.
Children participating in the workshop with be creating their patches with soft material, felt, fabric scraps, ribbons, buttons and fabric markers. No sewing skills are required as they will be using fabric glue, rather than needle and thread.
At the end of the workshop they can take their "soft memory patches" home to show off or keep in a safe place.
Alternatively children are invited to contribute their "soft me memory patch" to a collective string to hang the patches together or find a spot to create a shared “memory quilt” to show with Ju Bavyka's work in the museum during the Big Brother Movement exhibition.
Workshop suitable for ages 7 - 12 years
Please note that parents or guardians must remain on site during all children's workshops.
