Event description

Description

The historic Abbotsford Convent grounds and gardens are nationally recognised for their heritage significance. Join Head Gardener, Landscape Architect and artist Simon Taylor on a tour of the historic grounds and learn how the gardens, trees and flora tell the story of the site – from pre-settlement and early colonisation, to it being a closed monastic site for more than 100 years. Learn how the community came together to save the site from development, the impact volunteers had on restoring the gardens and shape the Convent into the arts, cultural and learning precinct it is today. Simon will share personal stories as well as research he has undertaken on the formal gardens and plans for the site’s sustainable future.
