Event description

Description

Road To Refuge, with sponsorship from Maurice Blackburn: Australia’s leading social justice firm, are proud to present 'Stories About Hope' during Refugee Week 2017. The exhibition is presented through photography and short films, and explores the human dignity, identity, and strength in people from refugee backgrounds.

As the Australian government continues to inflict harm on people seeking asylum, “Stories about Hope” gives the public the opportunity to hear the incredible stories from those who actually lived them. The exhibition shines an important light on the voices, perspectives and experiences of refugees erased from public conversation.

Come along to the Stories About Hope opening night launch to be the first to experience this unique exhibition at its debut in Melbourne, and get an exclusive guided tour of the exhibit by the artist and producer Renee Dixson.

Canapes will be provided and drinks will be available for sale.

Curated by Amber Hearn, the stories represented in the exhibition celebrate the courage and resilience of participants who have undertaken diverse journeys to Australia throughout different points in history. From Holocaust survivors to queer refugees to our most recent young arrivals, the stories prove that your past does not define you, and can give you strength to move forward with confidence.

Stories About Hope has an associated book by Elias Kelleher, which will be available for purchase at the exhibition.

All proceeds from this event will go towards helping Road to Refuge's work in building a new conversation which supports and values the lived experience and dignity of people seeking asylum.
