Event description

Description

Suicide kills ten men a week in Victoria and costs the economy at estimated $3B a year.

Men and boys in Victoria are three times more likely to take their own lives than women and girls.

If you are concerned about this issue, then please join us for this free one day seminar in Melbourne on Monday 26th June.

We want to invite everyone who is passionate about and committed to stopping male suicide to come and take part in this event, so we can share our experience and learn from each other.

Full program to be announced shortly. Speakers include:

  • Dr Simon Rice, Orygen, The National Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health at The University of Melbourne who is focused on improving mental health services for younger men
  • Dr Anton Isaacs, Monash University, specialist in Aboriginal men's mental health and suicide prevention strategies for Indigenous people
  • Dr Kylie King and Dr Marisa Schlichthorst from Melbourne School of Population and Global Health at The University of Melbourne who are researching suicide in older men
  • James Fowles, On The Line/MensLIne, who provide telephone and online support for suicidal men
  • Pete Nicholls, CEO, Parents Beyond Breakup/Dads In Distress, supporting separated dads at risk of suicide
  • Owen Connolly, a nurse practitioner who developed and implemented Latrobe Regional Hospital's suicide prevention service in Gippsland
  • Matt Runnalls, CEO, Mindful Aus, mental wellbeing advocate with lived experience of male suicide
  • Colin Charles who facilitates the Support After Suicide bereavement service men's group
