Event Details

STEP Queensland branch is pleased to continue its lecture and networking series for early career professionals in 2019.

The lecture topics are aimed at professionals with less than 5 years' experience, however all professionals are welcome to attend.

Each event provides an opportunity for networking and developing relationships.


Topic:             Estate Planning

Cross jurisdictional planning and other modern complications

Carla Parsons TEP - Director, Parsons Law

Carla is an Accredited Specialist in Succession law and has also completed a Master of Applied Law (Wills & Estates) through the College of Law. She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and is also a current STEP Qld branch committee member. In addition, Carla holds the role of semester assistant professor at Bond University, teaching the Wills and Estates elective in the Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice.


Since 2017 Carla has been recognised in the Doyles Guide as a recommended Lawyer in Queensland in regards to both Estate Litigation and Wills & Estate practice. She has also been named in 2019 and 2020 in Best Lawyers Australia in the categories of Trusts and Estates and Wealth Management and Succession Planning practice.

How do I join STEP?

  • Those with less than 5 years' relevant experience can become a member of STEP through the Education Route and progress from STEP Affiliate to STEP Associate and finally to Full STEP Member.

  • Credit points can be gained through the completion of modules with our Accredited Education Partners.

  • Those with more than 5 years' relevant experience can join STEP through the Qualified Practitioner Route.

Can I pay via EFT or cheque?

Unfortunately, no, STEP Queensland is only able to receive credit card payments through the EventBrite system. EventBrite will send you a receipt and ticket when you register. Please consider this your invoice.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, we will have your details on file and your name badge ready for collection.

Is my registration/ticket transferable?

Unfortunately your ticket cannot be transferred to another member.

I RSVP'd that I would attend but something has come up - can I attend remotely?

No, unfortunately there are no facilities at this venue for STEP to be able to provide remote access or recordings of this event. 

Will the materials be sent around in advance?

If the speaker provides the materials in advance they will be circulated the day prior to the seminar.

I have a season ticket, do I need to RSVP?

It would be appreciated if you did RSVP. This assists with accurate numbers for catering and set up.

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”) is the worldwide professional association for practitioners in the fields of trusts and estates, executorship, administration and related issues.  STEP has more than 20,000 members from across 95 countries worldwide, who practice across the legal, accountancy, corporate trust, banking and related professions.  Members belong to branches that provide professional development and opportunities to network at a local level.
The STEP Queensland Branch is the largest branch in Australia, with more than 205 members.  Many of our members are practising lawyers, but we have a growing membership base of accountants, trust company practitioners and financial planners. The Patron of our branch is pre-eminent trusts and estates scholar, Mr Tony Lee.
