About this Event
The Tech Heroes Club created by Western BACE and powered by the City of Melton Libraries Team is back for the Lifelong Learning Festival. Girls and Boys Aged 5-15 from the City of Melton can join in a range of free self-paced Robotics, Coding, Design and Tech challenges over the course of the Festival. Group and 1-1 online support will be provided by the Western BACE STEM Squad and robotics kits by the Western BACE STEM Lending Library. Additionally, as part of Lifelong Learning Festival, adults will be able to try their hand at adult only “Coding for Beginners” challenge. At the end of the festival, participants will have a chance to submit their work and go in the running to win a robotics kit.
A great Introduction for younger girls and boys to STEM. They will get creative with tech and recreate a scene from a favourite book or compose and tell an original adventure, mixing coding with storytelling. Fun, engaging and low-pressure, no prior coding experience is required. For the Lifelong Learning Festivals Parents and kids have the opportunity to borrow a Ozobot robotic kit miniature line following robots which can sense colours and use that to understand instructions from our Western BACE Robotic Lending Library, to continue having fun learning together by completing self-paced activities.
Who is this challenge suitable for?
- Boys and girls aged 5-8 years. No prior coding experience required.
- At the end of the program, kids will have a chance to submit their work and go in the running to win robotic kit.
- Limited number of spots in the Robotics Challenges, with equipment to be loaned out from the Western BACE STEM Lending Library.

This program is proudly supported by the City of Melton Libraries Team, if oversubscribed priority will be given to Parents and Kids residing in the City of Melton.

What does this cost?
Nothing – Thanks to the support of Melton City Council the STEM Equipment Lending program is free to families in the City of Melton.
What about accessories e.g. charging cables etc?
We will provide the necessary accessories for each piece of technology including charging equipment. We have a limited number of tablets available to support access for those who do not have access to a household tablet.
Cybersafety
All online sessions, from tech support, to show and tell, will be facilitated by our STEM Squad. Our STEM Squad is made up of youth and adults passionate about creating opportunities for kids to engage in STEM activities and have a valid working with children check.
