Description

Are you a STEM PhD student considering your options after graduation? Would you like to hear more about alternative careers pathways? The student associations from Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, Institute for Molecular Biosciences, Queensland Brain Institute and School of Biomedical Sciences present the STEM Postgraduate Careers Evening 2018. Come along on October 25th, 6 pm – 9 pm at the Advanced Engineering Building to learn about diverse career paths after your postgraduate degree.

  • Registration opens 5.30 pm (Level 3 Foyer)

  • Panel discussion 6.00 pm (Level 3 Auditorium)

  • Networking with industry representatives 7.30 pm (Level 5 Foyer)

  • Skills Workshops 7.30 pm and 8.00 pm (Level 5 Seminar Room)

Venue: Advanced Engineering Building (#49), The University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

Entry: Free, registration essential

Dress: Smart Casual

A professional photographer will be available to for LinkenIn headshots during registration 5.30 pm - 6.00 pm (Level 3 Foyer) and throughout the networking event 7.45 - 8.15 pm (Level 5 Foyer)




Program Overview

The evening will begin with presentations from our panellist about their current roles, their background and the role a PhD played in their transition. Followed by a Q&A.

  • Dr Adam Pirie (Direct of Operations, ABcann Globall

  • Professor Ala Tabor (Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation)

  • Professor Lynn Griffith (Executive Director at Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, QUT)

  • Dr Nagaraj Gopisetty (Business Development and Innovation, Education Manager, Translational Research Institute)

Following the panel discussion, there will be the opportunity to engage with a number of industry representatives in an informal networking session. These include Amblyoptica, FB Rice, Davies Collison Cave, Terragen Biotech, TetraQ, XING Technologies, UniQuest, Vaxxas, West Pharamaceutical Services and more!

We will also be providing two interactive workshops, tailored specifically for this event:

  • 7.30 pm Communicating to the Media – Presented by Bronwyn Adams (Communications Manager, IMB/QBI)

  • 8.00 pm Preparing a CV for Industry – Presented by Racheal Pitt (HDR Careers Advisor, UQ Graduate School)

Finger food and beverages are provided so come along to hear career advice from successful individuals and expand your networking pool!
