Description

Hands-on experiences, knowledgeable educators, exemplar location. A whole day exploring how to use your school’s outdoor environment to hook students into STEM and sustainability using head, heart and hands.

This professional development day is designed for Secondary teachers in Catholic schools from the western metro region of Melbourne, Geelong, Surf Coast, Bellarine Peninsula. Specifically we are tailoring the day to Science and Geography teachers.


OUTLINE OF THE DAY

The day will focus on building links to STEM and Sustainability through hands on workshops, case studies and the Victorian Curriculum.

  • Participate in hands on workshops in the vegetable garden and connecting to the local natural environment.
  • Explore food security and food miles through pizza making.
  • Listen to first hand case studies from local Catholic Secondary schools.
  • Get up to speed on the new Victorian Curriculum in regards to sustainability, vegetable gardens, and outdoor learning opportunities for secondary education.

All sessions are linked to the Victorian Curriculum F-10, the Education in Sustainability in the Archdiocese of Melbourne resource and ResourceSmart Schools Modules.
