The legislatures have become highly active in regulating all facets of the criminal law. It is more important than ever for prosecution and defence counsel to have a good command of the essential features of text, context and purpose of legislation. This seminar will consider how to approach these features in the context of substantive criminal and sentencing legislation recently considered by the High Court and Supreme Court of South Australia.
