Description

This Blockchain Centre Presents the Workshop Series: State of Practice of ICOs

The state of practice for ICOs (Initial Coin Offerings) is evolving as is international regulation of ICOs and their tokens. This workshop has also evolved from Funding ICOs to presenting the richness of the global ecosystem into which ICOs are executed along with the lifecycle of activities required to successfully run an ICO.

This expanded workshop gives an overview of the fast-moving world of ICOs which is the most common means today by which blockchain start-ups raise funds, even though there are easier means of raising money.

This course is targeted for a mixed audience:
- those wishing to do an ICO and wanting to understand how best to proceed;
- those who are currently doing an ICO but may be stuck or unsure of how to get past some hurdles;
- those who want to educate themselves “why all the fuss about ICOs”; and
- ICO investors who want to know what a genuine ICO looks like to better understand how to evaluate an ICO and avoid scams.

Testimonials:

This course gives a lot of substance on the topic of ICOs. This is an excellent course that delivers clarity and perspective.

- John Minicz

I avidly recommend Susan Dart's ICO workshop. It was obvious Susan has researched her topic extremely well, and the many years of experience she has had in the corporate world and with start-ups has made for a polished delivery. The workshop was fast paced and content rich. She was happy to take questions on the run which also helped cement understanding. Susan laid out the fundamentals and gave great insights to best practice in mounting an ICO while also advising on the many pitfalls that lay in store for the unaware. She really knows how to frame your offering as a business, not a scam. For me it was an eyeopener because my thoughts and beliefs were way off target. When I'm considering an ICO, I will definitely want Susan on the team!

- Russell Park-Miller

Many ICOs do not fulfil their potential for their founders in achieving maximum funds and other success criteria (such as sustainability) because ICO teams neglect adequate preparation and often list too early. Such weaknesses can be avoided.

Find out what a good ICO looks like, why start-ups do them along with tackling the legal risks and technical challenges one faces in running them. This course highlights Australian legislation and how it impacts ICOs. All the phases of an ICO are laid out along critical lessons learned from failed and successful ICOs. The latest data analytics are presented along with the trends toward improved due diligence by investors as well as, unfortunately, more lawsuits against ICOs.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Appreciate the importance of ICOs as a venue for raising funds

  • Understand why investors invest and how, surprisingly, they make decisions

  • Identify why ICOs may be viewed as scams

  • Assess the different problems and risks associated with ICOs

  • Consider the legal challenges of conducting an ICO

  • Describe the different stages of an ICO in detail

  • Appreciate the human resources needs in running an ICO

  • Identify important questions relating to token ecosystems

  • Become familiar with Australian companies that have done ICOs

  • Know the lessons learned from failed and successful ICOs

  • Be exposed to the latest business intelligence and data analytics for ICOs

  • Appreciate the budget required for running an ICO

  • Avoid common pitfalls in executing an ICO

  • Understand how to create a good whitepaper and do effective marketing

  • Become aware of technologies to support ICOs such as ICO selling platforms

  • Appreciate the significance of the social capital for your ICO

  • Know how to track whether your ICO is doing well in real-time.

The workshop is also an excellent opportunity to discuss mutual ICO interests with participants and meet the skilled staff at the Blockchain Centre.
