Session 1: Effective Communication & Active Listening
The first workshop of the Start Talking series focuses on improving the basic techniques of effective communication and listening skills. Listening is not the same as hearing; hence, active listening ability not only refers to getting the words being spoken but also how they are being delivered including non-verbal messages sent with them.
Communication is a two-way process, so improving communication involves both how we send and receive messages.
As part of the workshop in active listening skills, the techniques of clarification, reflection and attentive questioning are the three pillars for any communicators to learn how to build relationships, solve problems, get a better understanding, resolve conflicts and minimise errors.
The second half of the workshop will focus on various communication styles to improve ability to exchange thoughts and ideas with others. The workshop will discuss the emotional effect, empathy and encouragement or inspirational effect of what you are communicating within the norms of acceptable behaviours other people to become more charismatic as well as improving your emotional intelligence.

About Start Talking Workshop series:
The 4-session workshop series will cover personal and social competences. The first two sessions will focus on how you manage yourself and the last two sessions will cover how you handle relationships with others in regard to personal and professional communications.
