Event description
Mental Health First Aid - Two days of information and discussion to raise awareness of mental health conditions and the help available.

About this Event

Facilitators Emma Ketley(Mental Health Occupational Therapist) has 17 years of experience in Clinical Mental Health, Community Development, and Health Service Management.

Emma will guide you through the two day course which will cover Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bipolar Affective Disorder, Substance Abuse and Psychotic Conditions. The information discussed will give you the skills to notice, support and assist others developing and experiencing mental health issues. These invaluable skills could be the difference to someone experiencing the distress of Mental Health Issues.

The training outlines a simple 5 step action plan for early intervention in the crises of suicidal thoughts and behaviour, panic attacks, traumatic events, Drug and Alcohol abuse, severe psychotic states and aggressive behaviour. This standard course provides 12 hours of evidence-based mental health information.

Emma can provide first hand information, with the professional experience to discuss any questions you may have.

Anyone over the age of 18 can join the course. The course is specific to the weekend to provide opportunity for everyone to attend as we recognise that some individuals might not be able to attend due to work and care commitments during the week. The early start on each day enables a 'early start, early finish time" to balance of learning and self-care throughout the weekend.

Instructor profiles can be viewed at Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health Handbooks, local resource handouts and well-being management materials will be provided to each participant.

Attendees will be emailed a link after the course for the open-book assessment to obtain a Mental Health First Aider certificate.
