This Mental Health First Aid course is a combination of self-guided online learning and instructor-led video conferencing sessions.
About this event
This internationally-recognised course will equip participants with the necessary skills, knowledge and confidence to respond to a peer in crisis or detect the early signs and symptoms of mental health concern, including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance abuse, panic attacks, suicidal thoughts and more.
Participants will learn how to provide initial support to other adults aged 18-65 who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan.
There are two components to this course:
- Component 1 (before the course) – A self-paced eLearning component (takes 5-7 hours to complete)
- Component 2 (July 19 and 20) – Two instructor-led sessions using video conferencing. Each session is approx. 3 hours.
The training is based on guidelines developed together by people with lived experience of mental health problems and health professionals working in the field.
