CRIME & CORPORATE PUNISHMENT

DOES THE BIGGER END OF TOWN NEED TOUGHER PENALTIES?

We invite you to be part of an exclusive audience to hear what the leaders of Australia's leading regulatoty bodies have to say about crime and punishment in Australia today. Then take the opportunity to pose your questions to the experts.

For millennia, society has wrestled with the challenge of how we best deter harmful behviour. A typical response to human wrongdoing is to dial up the breadth and severity of punishment. But how should we respond to the damaging conduct of corporations? Is the big end of town getting an easy ride or are tougher penalties needed to curb white collar crime?

Join three of Australia's principal regulators in conversation with Dr Simon Longstaff, as they discuss what place should be given to punishment in the regulator's toolkit.

SPEAKERS:
Greg Medcraft - Chair, Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC)
Dr John Laker AO - Chair, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA)
Rod Sims - Chair, Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)

MODERATOR:
Dr Simon Longstaff AO - Executive Director, St James Ethics Centre

The Ethics Centre

A world with strong ethical foundations is a better, fairer, safer place. The Ethics Centre has a vision of a world in which we all have the courage to stand up for what we believe in, the wisdom to explore the unknown, and the imagination and heart to strive for the very best we can be. Ethics extends a great invitation we will never regret accepting – to know our world and ourselves.

The Ethics Centre delivers innovative programs, services and experiences to bring ethics to the centre of professional and personal life. Our activities span live events, ethics advice and education, a free ethics helpline and advocacy campaigns. We speak about ethics in a wide variety of contexts to audiences all over Australia and around the world. Across all our work, the same goal drives what we do: to bring people together, create the space for open and honest conversations, and build the skills and capacity of people to live and act according to their values and principles.
