Description

The Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute is proud to present a pre-conference…

HALF DAY “LEAN IN” WORKSHOP

DISCOVER AND LEARN NEW TECHNIQUES FOR MAKING YOUR ORGANISATION’S INFORMATION PART OF THE SEMANTIC WEB

This workshop introduces Semantic Web data modelling concepts that can be applied to spatial data. It provides GIS professionals with information and hands-on experience using transitionary data modelling techniques that will move the industry on from traditional web 2.0 concepts to Web 3.0 functionality.

Semantic Web technologies are being used by some of the largest organisations in the world (eg. Facebook, Google, Oracle, Banking Industry) to provide them with inferenced knowledge that has never been available at such a large scale previously. Discover new techniques that will allow spatial data to be explored and used in completely new and innovative ways to realise a future where people can pose complex queries and receive intuitive answers in real-time. This is referred to as ‘Knowledge On-demand’.

Over the past 5 years, the CRC for Spatial Information has coordinated a large research program exploring how next generation web technologies can be enhanced through spatial techniques to deliver new insights into how spatial information is found, accessed, integrated and utilised to deliver new knowledge.

The CRCSI has developed a white paper outlining the future of spatial analytics leading towards the creation of a 'Spatial Knowledge Infrastructure’ (SKI). Much of this workshop explores the fundamentals of achieving the SKI in the future and how organisations can start to leverage the new opportunities that the Sematic Web provides. Further information on this white paper can be accessed via: http://www.crcsi.com.au/spatial-knowledge-infrastructure-white-paper/

Target Audience: Local Government and State Government Data Managers, and Surveyors wanting to learn about new Semantic Web data modelling techniques for spatial information.

What you will learn:

  • What is the Semantic Web?
  • How semantically-enabled data is modelled and constructed.
  • How traditional relational data models can be enhanced through Semantic Web concepts.
  • The role of IoT and unstructured data and how to make sense of it.
  • Hands on application of creating a semantic data model.
  • Overview of case studies applying these concepts.

Places are limited for this workshop – please register ASAP.
