Event Details

The Workshop aims to provide us with knowledge and skills to translate the theory into practice when working with students and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The morning session is open to all SSS. The afternoon session is specifically aimed at speech pathologist.

9.30am - 12.30pm - Morning Session – Suitable for Psychologists, Speech Pathologists and Social Workers

  • Identifying the six Principles of Culturally Competent Practice.
  • Impact of culture on communication and interactions.
  • Evidence for culturally appropriate assessment and intervention.
  • Practical approaches across the therapeutic process (case history, assessment, differential diagnosis, intervention).

Morning tea break - 10.30am (15/20mins)

 1.30pm - 4.30pm - Afternoon Session – Specific to Speech Pathologists

  • Application of the six Principles of Culturally Competent Practice to Speech Pathology practice.
  • Available resources to support the communication of students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Applying learning to case studies to support translation of knowledge to practice.

Afternoon tea break - 2.30pm (15/20mins)

Morning, afternoon tea and light lunch refreshments will be provided.

Parking options

Parking is available in the kindergarten carpark through gate 4 but the first 2 rows must be left for kinder families, staff and taxi drop offs, there is limited parking in the surrounding streets, and also limited parking spaces through gate 1.  Parking through gate 2 & 3 is for Aurora staff and taxi’s only.
