SQNLDR David Hood is the Certification Manager for the RAAF C-27J Spartan aircraft being acquired through FMS arrangements under Project AIr 8000 Phase 2. The C-27J Spartan offers enhanced self protection and interoperability enhancements to meet Australia's requirements. The aircraft is built by Alenia Aermacchi and is modified by L-3 Product Integration Division to the United States De[artment of Defense Joint Cargo Aircraft (JCA) C-27J configuration, known as Spartan.
In RAAF service, the aircraft will be operated by 35 Squadron with its Interim Main Operating Base (MOB) at Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Base Richmond prior to relocating to the final MOB at RAAF Base Amberley in 2017. The Project acquisition includes the ten aircraft, training system, support system materiel elements and three years of initial FMS training and support services.
