Event description

Description

Difficulties with speech-sound production will affect approximately 6% of students in Queensland primary schools and between 10-15% of children in pre-school settings (Qld Health, 2016). There is widespread agreement that there is an association between speech disorders and literacy skills attainment difficulties. In this short web-conference, Jenny Peach, Senior Adviser, Speech Language Therapy, will describe some common speech-sound disorders and the common interventions put into place to support these students. She will also describe the role of speech language pathologists in Queensland state schools and the support they are positioned to offer classroom teachers.
