Specks of Sand – Community, Science and Decision-making is a forum to provide factual, impartial information to assist the community to understand Maroochy River and adjacent coastal processes, to enable informed comment and decision-making on issues and developments that impact on the river – and ultimately on all of us.
The forum aims to present technical information (in everyday language) from a panel of experts in their fields. The significance of theMaroochy River in historical and cultural terms, and the importance to local and tourism communities of its natural scenic and recreational values will also be explored. It is hoped the forum will provide in-depth information to enable the community to make informed comment on issues and developments that impact on the river and all who enjoy it; the essence of true community consultation.
The concept and program has been developed by a partnership between Coolum and North Shore Coast Care (CaNSCC), the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) and the Organisation of Sunshine Coast Associations of Residents (OSCAR), the peak community body on the Sunshine Coast, and financially supported by the Sunshine Coast Rivers Initiative.
