About this Event
Local Sustainability Fair March 28th 10:00am to 2:00pm
Bedford Park Community Garden as part of Central Ringwood Community Centre and in partnership with Transition Towns Maroondah, will be hosting our third annual Local Sustainability Fair. This will be a special Living Local COVID Recovery event meaning that while retaining it’s Family Friendly Fair Fun and Free Entry, we will also incorporate wellness, community building and cultural aspects to the fair this year.
There'll be something for everyone with Market Stalls, Plants for Sale, Live Music, Free West African Drumming workshop, Kids Activities, Food Vans, Ice Cream, Special Guest Speakers and a free Wayapa Wuurrk community mindfulness movement session.
Another addition this year will be the financial contribution of the The Victorian State Government Lets Stay Connected Grant fund s as well as donation from Honourable Dustin Halse MP, The Thread Wellbeing and Lifestyle, The Forges Drop, Here and There Makers. This will enable us to contribute to the local economy and support artists and entertainers who have been severely impacted by COVID.
We will also be running a special social economy project during the Fair, which we are especially excited about. $50 Fair vouchers door Prizes awarded to lucky Fair Goers. For our top tier sponsor, we will create 20 “Community, Money Multiplier” tokens worth $5 each, with their business logo. These will be awarded to Fair goers and encouraged to be spent at the Fair. Each time it is spent, it will be encouraged to be given as change or spent at another stall. We will track how many times these tokens exchange hands and all the products they purchased. This demonstrates the increased value and the immediate positive benefits of shopping local.
This is a not-for-profit event, run by volunteers as a true community event set in our beautiful public garden. It has a great community vibe and provides opportunities to meet some of the local businesses and community groups doing great things to support us all to leave lighter footprints, support mental health and wellbeing and connect us with our neighbours to build a resilient and sustainable community. If you think you could help out for a couple of hours, email us at admin@crccinc.org.au
Last year our Zero Waste efforts were a huge success with only 1 single item going to landfill. Patrons bring along their own keep cup and reusable shopping bags to help us try to make this event waste free. All food scraps are composted on site and with the help of our new Wash Against Waste kit and some wonderful Volunteers, we can avoid the need for single use take away containers.
