Event description

Description

Join us for a panel discussion that delves into the rich history of the place, the politics, the people and the music that has shaped Brisbane.

There wasn’t a lot to celebrate in Brisbane in the 70’s, 80’s with Joh Bjelke Petersen at the helm. Many young people felt there was no place for them in this conservative little town and a generation of agitators was born! Enter, radio station 4ZZZ…..

4ZZZ in Fortitude began as a radical alternative to mainstream news to promote a sense of engagement and activism in community life and to amplify the voice of Brisbane. It was a megaphone for the musical and political movement that built a community network in Fortitude Valley. The place was a haven for sub-cultures and live music venues like the Zoo gave young bands an opportunity to strut their stuff on a larger scale.

Join the keepers of Brisbane's musical heritage for a discussion on the people, places and social issues that have shaped Brisbane's counter-culture.

Stick around after the talk for a screening of Peter Macpherson’s 'A Vision of Hell', originally released in 1982 this super 8 film features footage of many of Brisbane's underground greats including The Pits, This Five Minutes, Tex Deadly & the Dum Dums, Xero and more. Presented by BOH, 4ZZZ and The Zoo.

If you are unable to attend this event please advise us via email info@brisbaneopenhouse.com.au as soon as possible so we can offer your place to someone else.

Please note:

  • Talk at 7pm, film commences at 8pm
