Description

Philosophy talk: Love, freedom and Elena Ferrante

The intense readability and popularity of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Quartet, and the mystery surrounding
its author, can distract us from the work’s heavyweight intellectual achievements.

Sam Shpall will discuss themes in the history of philosophical thinking about love, friendship, and women’s freedom,
themes that he argues are interestingly framed and critiqued in the Neapolitan Quartet.

Sam Shpall is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at The University of Sydney.
