Event description

Description

A membership-only club for young scientists in school years 3 - 6.

Members will learn the art of discovery and scientific enquiry through a series of hands-on science-based workshops and activities.

The Club meets each Thursday from 3.45 – 4.45pm for four weeks during Term 1 in 2018: 1 March, 8 March, 15 March, 22 March.

Calendar:

  • Potato Clock
    Thursday 1 March 2018, 3.45 - 4.45pm

Can a potato actually power a clock? Learn how a battery works in a simple circuit and how potato power changes to electrical energy to run a digital clock.

  • Escape Room
    Thursday 8 March 2018, 3.45 - 4.45pm

We have turned our auditorium into a themed room for you to solve the puzzles, find the clues and escape the room in time! You will work in teams to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the room.

  • Bacteria: The Good/Bad/Ugly
    Thursday 15 March 2018, 3.45 - 4.45pm

Imagine what you could see if you had microscopic vision! The bacteria that you could spot on the surface of your iPad, the kitchen bench, or even the toilet seat! It would be pretty gross! Sure, there are some nasty bacteria that can make you extremely sick, but are there some “good” bacteria out there? We will delve into the marvellous world of microbiology to discover some interesting facts and some surprises along the way.

  • Frankenstein Lab
    Thursday 22 March 2018, 3.45 - 4.45pm

In this freaky hands-on lab we explore the glorious yet gruesome parts of our body that we couldn’t live without. We will learn all about brains, hearts, eyes and tongues from Egyptian times until now. Come prepared to learn some deliciously disgusting facts and perhaps get your hands dirty! There will also be a jelly brain on offer. Taste-test anyone?
