South Australian Aviation Museum Tour
Tue. 28 March 2017, 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm ACDT
The RAeS Adelaide Branch invites all members, friends and family to join us on an after-hours tour of the South Australian Aviation Museum (SAAM), located at 66 Lipson Street, Port Adelaide.
SAAM was founded in 1984 in Glenelg and is now fully accredited by History SA and operated exclusively by volunteers. The museum's extensive collection is housed in a World War II PENTAD aircraft hangar, designed in 1943 by the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm, and includes a wide range of aircraft, engines, propellers, historic displays and memorabilia.
The tour will be hosted by experienced and knowledgeable SAAM guides who will lead us around the display hangar and restoration workshop, giving you an opportunity to see historic aircraft such as Aermacchi jet trainer, Canberra bomber, DC Dakota transport, Sea Venom fighter-bomber and Spitfire... check out http://www.saam.org.au/ for the full collection.
There may be an optional close-up tour of the F-111 strike bomber, including a chance to climb into the cockpit (min. 10 adult participants, surcharge applies). If you are interested in this add-on tour, please email us after registering for this event, no later than 21 March 2017.
Standard tour: members FREE, non-members $8 adults, $4 children
F-111 experience: additional $12 adults (members & non-members)
Fees are payable directly to the museum on the day by cash or Eftpos.
Refreshments will be provided from 5.30pm, with the tour to commence at 6.00pm.
