Event description

Description

Sounds-Write is an evidence-based highly structured, synthetic, linguistic phonics program utilising an exciting and highly successful approach to the teaching of reading and spelling. It is an instructional method that is multi-sensory, structured, code orientated, sequential and explicit. These aspects are strongly recommended for teaching children to read and spell.

Sounds-Write is developmentally appropriate for beginning readers in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 within a classroom, and also offers fast and highly effective small group or individual intervention for children at all year levels who have fallen behind in their reading and spelling from Year 3 onwards.

Sounds-Write practitioners are trained to teach all key elements of conceptual understanding, factual knowledge, and the essential skills of blending, segmenting and phoneme manipulation; all of which are necessary to learn to read and spell.

This 1-hour presentation will provide parents, grandparents, teachers, speech pathologists and other interested professionals, with an overview of the Sounds-Write Linguistic Phonics Programme and how it supports student reading and spelling from K-2. We will also discuss how the program can be used in small group or individual intervention settings. We will finish the discussion with a brief summary of how we are implementing Sounds-Write as part of literacy education at Holy Family Primary School.

This is a free event.
