More about Joshua
At 18, my 1st paid gig was playing middle eastern rhythms for a weekly belly dance class whilst studying Visual Arts. This would begin a journey as a lover of world music and dance.
I’ve been playing my 2 signature instruments for 20 years,
The Yidaki (Didgeridoo) master teacher of breathe and vibration
and the world of the Drum, the master master of timing and rhythm.
As mostly self taught multi-instrumentalist. I’ve played on festival stages including Woodford Folk Festival, Peats Ridge, The Falls Festival and Into the Wild UK.
Professionally i’ve spent most of my time living & working in regional and remote indigenous communities delivering arts and music programs and filming for festivals around the country.
in 2012, Medicine Rhythms - a Sydney based Ecstatic Dance collective, is where I began to mix it up with electronica. I loved co-weaving full body dance journeys combining real instruments, percussion with global groove and bringing people together in to the dance floor as sacred space. At this time I met Daniel Coates and we collaborated under the banner of Suntara as we shared sound healings to sell out audiences all over Australia for many years and still collaborate to this day.
In 2018 I spent the year studying the galactic histories through Damanhur as a weekly online course. Damanhur is an eco spiritual community in Italy. This would culminate in a journey to spend time living and learning in Damanhur. It was here I experienced music of the plants, and this has since become a passion and inspiration for my music.
2021 and beyond will continue to be opportunities to create deeper & more immersive experiences for the dance floor and the meditative realms and the plant kingdom as well as ongoing research to advocate for the arts and mindfulness in addressing mental health and social disadvantage.
