Sonya Ryan discusses cyber safety
Nearly half of all Australian children use social media sites, however an astounding quarter of Australian children report they have been cyber bullied. In the wrong hands an instant chat tool or social networking site can become a targeted, painful weapon capable of damage at levels most don’t even know possible.
Are you aware of internet predators and the potential dangers children could face? Do you warn children about sharing information over the internet?
Speakers in Schools is inviting you to an exclusive seminar with Sonya Ryan from the Carly Ryan Foundation where she will educate parents, teachers and students about safe social networking, cyber bullying, protecting private information, online gaming, sharing information and Federal Law.
For the past five years, Sonya Ryan has dedicated herself to the promotion of internet safety through the Carly Ryan Foundation established in memory of her daughter Carly. Befriended by an internet predator posing as a teenage boy, Carly was groomed by the middle-aged man who convinced her to meet him. Tragically that meeting in February 2007 resulted in her brutal murder. Filled with grief and despair, Sonya Ryan did not turn inwards, instead reaching out to others to ensure that similar tragedies could be avoided.
Guests will also hear from Michael McGlashan, Telstra Area General Manager in Adelaide as he discusses Telstra’s support of the Carly Ryan Foundation as well as Telstra’s cyber safety position.
Canapés and light refreshments will be provided.
