SOLD OUT! Writing Romance and Genre with Charlotte Nash (Toowoomba)
Sat. 18 March 2017, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm AEST
Writing Romance and Genre
Learn about the core craft principles that sit behind the art of romantic (and other genre) storytelling. This workshop will cover:
How to develop a premise, including how to think about lead characters, their problems, and the world they inhabit.
How to structure a novel from the premise, setting up the story, creating a pleasing flow that fits with reader expectations of story, and a satisfying ending.
The expectations and tropes of genres (such as romance's happily ever afters, romantic development, sub-genres and sex). Learn how to use and make the most of these recognisable traits of genre fiction. The workshop can cover romance, science fiction, fantasy, crime, and more, depending on the genre interests of the participants.
The workshop will discuss iconic genre stories as examples and has practical exercises for participants to work on their own ideas. Leave with a premise and a basic structure outline for your own novel.
