Description

After the wonderful night with Libby Connors, who presented a fascinating history on documented events during the invasion of the Brisbane area and surrounds, we are happy to present another information forum on Aboriginal history as part of our Decolonizing Action Groups events.

Dr Ray Kerkhove will be talking about Aboriginal campsites of the inner Brisbane/ Bowen Hills area. Ray is a professional historian who specializes in the colonial history and material culture of Indigenous southern Queensland. We will be presenting on the information in his book Aboriginal Campsites of Greater Brisbane and will be selling copies on the night.

Please join us at 6pm for a pot luck dinner, followed by the forum at 6.30pm.

Ray began work in this field in 1985 with FAIRA under Uncle Bob Weatherall. Ray has been reconstructing historical landscapes and frontier wars sites, which has been used in public exhibitions (e.g. Life in Irons, Brisbane Museum), town master plans and major constructions such as the Toowoomba Bypass, Kingsford Smith Upgrade, Queen's Wharf, Bulimba Barracks and Sunshine Coast Airport. In 2015 he wrote Aboriginal Campsites of Greater Brisbane. He was the founder of ICP (Interactive Community Planning) Aust Inc., which won the Queensland Governor's Gold Award for services to local heritage.

All welcome.
