Description

As part of our Society 4.0 Forum events and partnering with Monash Sustainable Development Institute, we invite you to attend a masterclass where world-leading thought-leader and animateur of community data collaboratives, Stefaan Verhulst will explore the concept of community data collaboratives, their potential for good and the technicalities of establishing and using a data collaborative for good.

Data Collaboratives are a growing movement representing a new form of collaboration beyond the public-private partnership model, in which participants from different sectors – including community, government, non-profits, universities and corporations – work with and pool data, to create public value. Stefaan is the Founder of datacollaboratives.org – a platform and set of functionalities that enable and host sets of organisations to work together on social problems that would benefit from data analytics, novel evidence for problem solving and that require multiple sectors to partner in collective impact or collective action activities to drive social outcomes to improvement. Datacollaboratives.org is a website and set of resources hosted by the GovLab. The GovLab is an action research centre based at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering. It was founded by Beth Simone Noveck and Stefaan Verhulst in 2012 with the goal of promoting the design of more open, effective and networked governing institutions using data, technology and crowdsourcing.

At the masterclass, Stefaan will share how the idea of data collaboratives arose and their value. He will discuss how data collaboratives are a way to solve the complex problems that face society today requiring access to data and expertise across several sectors. Specifically, the masterclass will:
• Explore why and how to establish a data collaborative
• Provide examples of working data collaboratives around the world
• Discuss future horizons of community data collaborating
• Provide an opportunity for attendees to explore the idea of working with data collaboratives drawing on their organisations’ data

This is a unique opportunity to tap into latest world-leading thought and to find out the realities of data collaborating through concentrated time with a leading international expert in a small group situation.
