Description

Delivering Justice for the accused: a radical transformation of police line-ups

People who witness a crime are often asked to try to identify the culprit from a line-up or photo array. In this lecture, Professor Neil Brewer will address two main issues. First, he will explain why we need to radically transform the way in which we conduct such identification tests if we are to increase the probative value of eyewitness evidence. Second, he will present evidence from a large research program conducted at Flinders over the last five years which demonstrates the efficacy of a radical new procedure that is more informative about the likelihood a suspect is guilty (and innocent) than the evidence provided by traditional police line-ups.
