Event description

Description

Using art as a catalyst for expressing thoughts, opinions and ideas this course focusses on engaging young people in issues that are real and important to them about the world they inhabit. Participants will engage in important dialogue and analysis about social issues for young people, including the role artists play in shaping dialogue and advocacy. Through a variety of art making processes, they will explore different art-making techniques, mediums, themes and ideas; learning how to lift their own ideas and transform them into art pieces that express the critical voices and thoughts of young people.

  • Commencing 10am to 12noon Saturday 4 May for 8 weeks
  • Suitable for teens aged 11 to 17 years
  • Includes basic art materials
  • Bookings essential as class size is limited
  • Please read our Public Programs - Terms and Conditions prior to purchasing your ticket.

Skills taught

Critical thinking, social issues analysis, an understanding of the role of the artist, a variety of art techniques and materials exploration based on the interests and choices of the participants in the class (choice-based approach technique boot camps), idea generation, studio habits of mind behaviours (develop craft, stretch & explore, engage & persist, understand art worlds, reflect, envision, observe and express)

Outcome

Over the program, participants will produce multiple sketchbook entries and quick sketches as they brainstorm around social issues and plan for their own piece (including technique and material experimentation). These smaller pieces will lead into participants taking away one completed ‘WOW’ art work.
