Description

This event will take place online via Zoom and in-person for those who can attend in Melbourne. Online participants will be sent the unique Zoom code to participate prior to the workshop.

What am I supposed to do with my life? Is there one job where I could be both happy, make a difference and be wealthy? What is my "purpose"?

Our "purpose" isn’t something we magically find once, set and forget, to live happily ever after. If we are open to it, the journey of discovering our purpose throughout our life is a constantly unfolding one.

Facilitated by Be Awesome founder, Christian Duell, this workshop aims to inspire us to think creatively about our potential for creating positive social impact through purpose-driven initiatives and career paths.

The workshop will combine a short discussion on “nonlinear career paths” followed by a fast-paced, practical Design Thinking workshop. We will be challenged to explore divergent ideas, focussing on our own intrinsic motivations for creating positive change and impact in the world.

In this workshop, we will explore the following:

  • Identify what ignites “fierce compassion” in the way we each perceive the world
  • Identify one “wicked problem” we would each like to solve through our work
  • Identify the optimistic opportunity inherent in solving this problem
  • Generate a broad range of ideas for how we might solve this problem
  • Select one ambitious idea to test, prototype and present to others
  • Commit to one action to progress our ideas further in reality
  • Reflect on the session

All proceeds from this workshop will contribute to the planning and development of future Be Awesome Festivals.

This workshop will be facilitated by Be Awesome founder Christian Duell. About Christian:

Christian Duell is an educator, facilitator and social entrepreneur.

He is the founder of White Light Education and the Be Awesome social initiative and is the immediate past Manager of the Asia Pacific Design Library. With a former background in architecture, Christian has over 10 years of education and facilitation experience across a wide range of contexts.

Christian is passionate about empowering individuals and organisations, through the tools of creativity, to have greater freedom and quality of choice. He specialises in offering facilitation and training in the areas of design thinking, human-centred design and co-design, with a focus of tackling complex social challenges.

This workshop is based on a succesful model that Christian has been running with PhD students at Monash University since early 2016.

Testimonials:

“Christian delivers high quality training in the application of design thinking for social good. Our PhD students have found the workshops engaging and useful as they seek to use their expertise to tackle difficult and important issues.”

- Jeremiah Byrnes, Graduate Student Experience, Monash University

"I want to take this opportunity to express just how wonderful the workshop has flowed. From my initial reaction of "I don't know how this is going to work out?", through to working with your processes and really getting to understand the "Nitty Gritty" details from all the members of my team and stakeholders, I realised that we are all trying to accomplish the same things and that the various inputs from each individual brings a unique perspective to the co-design process."

- Christine Thirkell, (Peer Education Support Person) supported by the Council for Homeless Persons.
