Writing workshop with Edwina Shaw, KSP Emerging Writer-in-Residence 2018

This workshop as part of our 'So You Want To...' series is brought to you by the KSP Writers' Centre with support from the Shire of Mundaring as part of the 2018 National Year of Lifelong Learning. Tea and coffee provided.


So You Want To ... Master Memoir

Join author and teacher of creative writing, Edwina Shaw, and learn how to use fiction techniques to create a compelling memoir your readers won't be able to put down. Discover the heart of your story, create fully realised characters from real life people, make yourself a part of the story, and bring your memoir to life using scenes, dialogue and specific details. Have fun starting or developing your memoir in this interactive and information packed workshop.


About the Facilitator

Edwina Shaw holds a Master's Degree in Creative Writing from the University of QLD, and has been writing and publishing fiction and memoir for over thirteen years. In 2012, her book, Thrill Seekers (Ransom Publishing UK), a hard-hitting look at teenage life on the wrong side of the tracks, was shortlisted for the NSW Premier's Award for New Writing. Her new chapter book for young readers In The Dark of Night (Raven Books UK 2016) was featured in the 2016/2017 Summer Reading Club. She has also had several stories published in Australian and International literary journals, including the 2014 Best Australian Stories collection (Black Inc.). https://edwinashaw.com/


FAQs

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
There is a bus stop directly outside the Centre on Old York Road. The Centre is located on a residential street and looks like any other house: look for the 'Katharine’s Place' wooden plaque sign and bright green letterbox out front. Parking is available in the brick driveway and in front of the hedge, also on the upper gravel level (to the right of the house) and along the street. Overflow parking can be found down the gravel driveway to the immediate left of the house (look for the No Thoroughfare sign); please drive down here slowly.

What should I bring to the event?
Bring an exercise book and pen or pencil, and water bottle if desired. Laptops/tablets also welcome.

Sorry, tickets cannot be transferred.
