SME Audit for Beginners & Intermediate

Introduction & Overview

This workshop will provide a step by step approach to auditing small entities including sporting clubs, churches, school P & F associations, certain trust accounts and other small entities.  The workshop is aimed at those wishing to commence auditing as well as those with minimal audit experience and will demonstrate the key audit standard requirements and evidence requirements and their linkage to the scope of each different audit.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this session attendees will have an understanding of the scope of various SME audits including the fundamental requirements of the Australian auditing standards. Through the application of audit case studies, and the provision of a SME audit toolkit, attendees will gain comfort in their ability to audit any small entity.

This session is recommended for those wishing to commence auditing small entities as well as those with minimal audit experience.

Topics Covered

This workshop will cover the following:

  • Scope of the various audits including different legislative frameworks and reporting requirements
  • Key auditing standards and processes including accepting engagements, planning and risk assessment (including internal control and fraud requirements), audit evidence and documentation
  • Auditor's obligations in response to identified risks
  • Auditor's reporting obligations, i.e. the various different types of audit reports required and when to issue each

About the Presenter – Ashley Course

Ashley is the Director of ARC Super, which specialises in the provision of SMSF audit, technical and training services.  Ashley has extensive experience designing and developing audit software and programs and for the last ten years has trained and developed audit content for the professional accounting bodies and software providers.
