All the Treasures - Bible Talks on Colossians
Do you suffer from 'FOMO' - the fear of missing out? That nagging feeling that something more exciting or interesting is currently happening elsewhere and you’re not a part of it? Do you say ‘yes’ to more than you could possibly do because the thing you say ‘no’ to just might be the event of the year? Do you delay replying to a dinner invitation in case a better offer comes along, an offer you would miss out on if already committed? Do you constantly check social media believing you may be missing out on the latest tweet or youtube video to go viral, the latest social invitation, the latest critique of that reality TV show?
More significantly, does the fear of missing out impact your relationship with God? Do you have that nagging feeling that there’s something more exciting or interesting happening elsewhere and you’re not a part of it? Do you say ‘yes’ to so much that you’ve forgotten what lies at the heart of being a Christian? Do you delay committing to your church family in case a better offer comes along? Do you live in a world of borrowed quotes because you’re too busy keeping up to dwell richly in his word?
We all need to hear what Paul writes to the church in Colossae. They were a church being infiltrated by a message that claimed they were missing out, that there was more to take hold of, more to do, more secret knowledge to unlock, more experiences to be had than what they’d been told in the gospel about Jesus. As Paul writes to them, he holds Jesus up in all his beauty and sufficiency and shows them that in him they already have all the very best - all the treasures.
We hope you’ll come and join us as we explore the Book of Colossians together and see that, in Christ, there’s no need to fear missing out!
"...Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:3)
