Description

Maybe you’ve got a business itch you’d like to scratch, a possibility you’re pondering, or are teetering on the edge of leap. This live panel event is for everyone who is considering starting their own business, side gig or would like to be a bit braver in their working life. We’ll explore what you need to consider, how to get yourself organised and put together the building blocks for moving forward.

Panel Speakers

Emma-Kate Codrington, Emma Kate Co.
Emma is the founder of stationery label Emma Kate Co, traveller writer and social media influencer. Before leaping to start her own business she was an employed graphic designer in London, where fate would have it, a non-renewed visa forced her to return home and start from scratch. But instead of looking for a job, she took the plunge and started producing her own products, leveraging her considerable social media following. Today she has suite of stationery products and has over 50 stockists around the globe. In 2016 she successfully raised over $50K on Kickstarter to produce her own 2017 diary, which quickly sold out. (The Leap Stories #67)

Madeleine Dore, Extraordinary Routines
Madeleine Dore is a freelance writer and founder of the interview project Extraordinary Routines. Her writing has appeared in Sunday Life, Womankind, Kinfolk, The Big Issue, BBC, The Design Files and more. Before taking the leap into her freelance career, Madeleine worked full-time in her 'dream job' as deputy editor at ArtsHub. She recently took the leap to move to NYC for three months to see where her curiosity for meeting strangers could take her. (The Leap Stories #75)

Kate Vandermeer, The Super Cool
Kate is the co-founder of the international award-winning retail emporium The SuperCool. Having worked in the fashion industry for 17 years, Kate took her marketing, visual merchandising and trend forecasting experience and make the leap to start The SuperCool, first a a mobile, popup concern which moved over 20 times. Six years later, The SuperCool has expanded into a flagship shop within the SO:ME space within the iconic South Melbourne Market, offering a very curated collection of design books, homewares, gifts and ceramics, and recently expanded to The SuperCool Kids store next door. Since making the leap, her husband Noonie has since joined the business, and become parents to Lola, their 3-year-old daughter and SuperCool Ambassor! Kate and Noonie have won several international and local awards for retail innovation and regularly collaborate with iconic brands to produce a unique and distinctly cool offering.
