Description

This is Part 1 of a three-session course and is for anyone interested in starting their own business. The course will provide an overview of the current business landscape and create a space for participants to develop their own business ideas across all sessions days.

Participants will be given a hands-on overview of the building blocks for getting a business up and running, and learn about the key digital tools that can support this process.

The course is run over three consecutive weeks.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

  • Anyone aged 18+ with an interest in starting their own business
  • People with little to no business acumen

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Get an overview of the business world and how a successful business operates
  • Explore and practice using key mindsets essential for creating a successful business
  • Develop an understanding of different customer motivations and the use of market research in establishing this
  • Understand the financial, legal and organisation structures required to make a business “official” and compliant
  • Gain an understanding of how to use online and offline tactics to effectively market a business
  • Understand the core principles of communicating and engaging with new and existing customers, and how that can support the growth of your business
  • Understand how to pitch a business idea and get comfortable with the potential of it failing
  • Grasp the importance of utilising online and offline networks to promote a business

PREREQUISITES

  • Low-medium understanding of how to use a computer
  • Low-medium understanding of what social media is
  • Some experience using Microsoft Word
