Event description

Description

  • Would you benefit from guidance in identifying and developing opportunities for skilled volunteers to support your organisation?

  • Curious to know how other community organisations engage skilled volunteers and the benefits of doing so?

  • Would you like tips on how to best engage, influence and/or gain approval from colleagues and senior staff members to shape and create skilled volunteer roles?

  • Want to build your skills in attracting and pitching opportunities to skilled volunteers online and face-to-face?

If you have answered 'yes' to more than one of these questions, this workshop is for you!

This workshop will build on the information shared at the workshop on ‘Creating Short-term, Project-based Volunteer Opportunities’ on 14 June and provide an opportunity for organisations to share their learnings and progress in developing skilled volunteer roles.

Workshop details

This workshop will be delivered by the Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre (BVRC) in partnership with Non Profit Training. Jenny Holliday, Director and Senior Facilitator for Non Profit Training will facilitate the session. Jenny has over twenty years’ experience on committees and boards in the not-for-profit sector and in senior leadership roles.

What will you learn?

During this half-day, participatory and highly practical workshop, you will:

  • Brainstorm possible skilled volunteer opportunities within your organisation with other attendees
  • Share and discuss skilled volunteer opportunities within your organisation and receive feedback on their feasibility
  • Learn about the skilled volunteer roles other organisations have created, and the steps they have taken to develop these roles
  • Be introduced to tools that will assist you to influence key stakeholders within your organisation to create skilled volunteer roles
  • Improve your ability to connect with and recruit prospective skilled volunteers in preparation for an upcoming networking event connecting community organisations with skilled professionals.

You’ll leave the workshop with (a) new ideas for how you might engage skilled professionals within your organisation (b) improved confidence to ‘sell’ your skilled volunteer opportunities to skilled professionals and (c) strategies to help you work with and influence your colleagues to identify and create new skilled volunteer opportunities within your organisation.

For community organisations who would like to have a presence at the Skilled Volunteer Meet on 25 October, this workshop is a must!

What to expect on the day

The workshop will involve group discussions, short presentations from volunteer managers sharing their experience in creating skilled volunteer opportunities and engaging skilled volunteers, as well as role plays on how to attract skilled volunteers both online and face-to-face.
