Event description

Description

In this hands-on workshop you will learn about sketchnoting as a practice, why it can be an invaluable tool in your toolbox, and techniques to take your notes from dreary to delightful. Studies have shown that people who create simple, quick drawings are better able to remember a list of words than people who simply write words down and that writing notes longhand is more effective for understanding and retention than typing notes on a computer. Visual note-taking blends these two approaches. By using a combination of words and quick images, the note-taker listens, digests, and captures the essence of what has been heard in a uniquely sharable form.

Not an artist? Not to worry! As part of the workshop we will go over some basic drawing skills that you can use in your sketchnotes. People, faces, common objects, and type will all help you take your practice to the next level. By the end of the workshop you’ll have had the opportunity to try out your new skills and seen just how useful and fun sketchnoting can be!

Alex Riegelman

Lead Designer, Atlassian

Having survived a relocation from the United States to Australia, Alex has taken on some of the biggest design challenges facing Atlassian. Since studying Industrial Design at Carnegie Mellon University, he has developed passions for conceptual modeling, information architecture, and big, complicated products like cars…or JIRA. When he’s not unraveling complicated UX problems, you’ll probably find Alex climbing an obscure piece of rock in the middle of nowhere.
