Sirius Building & Artwork Walking Tour for Sydney Art Month
Lead by Sirius Architect Tao Gofers
Sirius is an exemplary Brutalist architectural work in the Australian context. However, it is under threat of sale and demolition by the NSW Government. The Save Our Sirius Foundation is working to have the Brutalist building added to the NSW Heritage List. So that residnets like 90 year old Myra are able to age in place.
Note: Unfortunately, the tour does not currently include access to any private apartments, foyer, or interiors of the building.
As part of Sydney Art Month, this tour will be led by architect of Sirius Apartments, Tao Gofers, the 60 minute tour will walk around Sirius and The Rocks, and finish with Tao's story of the the ‘URO’ artworks which hang in the Phillip Room.
This tour will discuss the history, cultural, and architectural significance of Sirius. Tao will discuss his foyer artwork collaboration with artist Penny Rosier. The majority of people inspecting the building during early open days continually questioned what the Karri timber prehistoric cave art was. Now known as ‘URO’s attendees will hear the story of the collaboration, and how they were given this interesting nickname.
Radio headsets will be provided so that attendees can hear Tao’s stories of Sirius through out the walking tour.
