Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Ever wondered if God is calling you into world mission? If you have what it takes? If your skills and experience could be used in cross-cultural ministry?

SIMWORLD is a conference designed to help you explore those questions. Experienced missionaries and SIM staff will be available to chat with you and there will be electives to choose from. Ask questions, find out about the opportunities that exist for ministry in Africa, Asia and South America and enjoy fellowship with like-minded people.

Theme: Risk Taking with Jesus

We are immersed in a culture of self-absorption that is preoccupied with safety, security and comforts. Yet we live in unpredictable times and most people without the Gospel live in dangerous contexts. To be Christ’s witness involves risking ridicule, rejection, loss and sometimes physical danger. To follow Jesus involves adopting the lifestyle of risk taking with Jesus – admitting our fears, placing our identity in Christ, functioning in community and stepping out by faith.

Main Speaker: Dr Omar Djoeandy, SIM Australia National Director

Electives - choose 2 of the following to attend:

Elective 1 “From Concept to Company”

I am very interested and almost convinced that I should serve overseas on mission. But how do I decide with which organization to apply? This elective consists of a panel of people who are at various stages of the application process with SIM. Benefit from them recounting the inner processing of their journey and find out what pushed them over the line with SIM. Pepper them with your questions, uncertainties and aspirations to see if their experiences can shed some light into the harder to see details of your decision.

Elective 2 “From Uncertainty to Understanding”

Is short-term missions just a holiday with personal do-good experiences? Does going on short-term missions bring long-term benefit to the field? How can it? Come and hear from a panel of recently returned short-termers as they share about their journeys from the unknown about short-term missions to understanding about the benefits and the nature of missions with SIM teams on the field.

Elective 3 – “From Risk to Reality”

What does it look like in reality to take risks with Jesus with faith and wisdom when faced with personal and cross-cultural challenges, both expected and unexpected? Hear from a worker from Pakistan who will share about the ways in which God has worked in both ordinary and extraordinary circumstances.

Elective 4 – “From Frontline to Family”

Does a missionary’s ‘career’ end upon returning? Come and listen to a couple who went out with SIM decades ago and lived amongst a people group with no Christian witness. Hear about how now that people group have a thriving community of disciple-making disciples. See how God has worked in and through this couple from going, being there, to re-entering Australia. Consider how they have continued to keep missions alive and continued to be part of the SIM family as returnees.
